SWCP Track app and website · Last updated 1 November 2026

SWCP Track is built so that your walks stay yours. There is no account and no sign-up, and we never see your walks, photos or location history.

The short version
  • Everything you record in SWCP Track is stored on your phone, not with us.
  • To show the weather, maps and Acorn routes, the app asks outside services for that information, which means telling them roughly where you are. We don't receive or keep that location.
  • Apple handles all purchases. We don't receive your name, email or payment details.
  • If you email us, we use your email only to reply.
  • No advertising, no tracking and no analytics, in the app or on this website.

Who we are

SWCP Track is made by Inverted Head Software Limited, a company registered in England and Wales [company number], registered office [registered address]. For the information described in this policy, we are the "controller" under UK data protection law.

Contact us at support@invertedheadsoftware.co.uk. [ICO registration number, if registered]

What stays on your phone

Everything you create in SWCP Track is stored only on your device. It is never sent to us, and we have no way of seeing it. This includes:

If you add walking friends, you are responsible for having their agreement to include their name and photo. That information stays on your phone.

When you save a backup or export a walk, the file goes wherever you choose, such as iCloud Drive or another app. That service's own privacy terms then apply. Deleting the app deletes everything it has stored on your phone, so keep a backup if you want to keep your walks.

Permissions the app asks for

You can change these at any time in your iPhone's Settings. Without location, the app can't record walks.

Outside services the app uses

Some features need information from the internet. To provide them, the app sends a request directly from your phone to the service below. Like any internet request, this includes your phone's IP address, and for the features below it includes a location. We don't receive or store these requests. Each service handles them under its own privacy policy.

ServiceWhat it's forWhat it receives
MET Norway (Norwegian Meteorological Institute)Weather forecasts while you walk and for your plansThe location the forecast is for, rounded [confirm rounding], and the app's name
MapboxOnline map backgrounds, satellite view and Acorn walking routes between the path and stations, bus stops, car parks and other placesThe area of map being shown, the start and end points of Acorn routes, and technical details of your device
OpenStreetMapMap backgrounds in some views, and when Mapbox isn't availableThe area of map being shown
Apple MapsFinding the website of a highlight you pinThe highlight's name and location

The offline maps of the coast path are built into the app, so viewing them sends nothing. Your walk history is never sent to any of these services.

Some of these services are outside the UK. MET Norway is in Norway, which the UK recognises as giving adequate data protection. Mapbox is based in the United States [confirm safeguards, e.g. UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses].

We rely on our legitimate interests, and on providing the features you choose to use, as the legal basis for these requests. You can turn the weather off in the app's control panel.

Purchases

SWCP Track is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple processes your payment and keeps the details under its own privacy policy. We receive sales reports from Apple that don't identify you. Offer codes, including the code to share with a walking companion, are created and redeemed through Apple.

Sharing your walks

When you share a social media post or send a walk to a friend, the app hands it to your iPhone's share sheet and it goes only where you choose. What happens next is up to you and the app or person you share with.

When you contact us

If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and to help with your question, which is in our legitimate interests and yours. We keep emails for up to [2 years] and then delete them, unless we need them longer to deal with a complaint or a legal requirement. Emails to us pass through Cloudflare and are stored in Google's Gmail, under their own privacy policies.

Crash reports

The app contains no analytics or crash reporting of its own. If you have chosen in your iPhone's settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports and usage figures. These don't identify you.

This website

This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no advertising. Its fonts and images are stored on the site itself, so viewing it doesn't contact any other company. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes visitors' IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from attacks, under its own privacy policy.

Children

SWCP Track is suitable for everyone and collects no personal information from anyone. We don't knowingly receive information from children. If a child has emailed us and a parent or guardian would like that email deleted, contact us and we'll delete it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. You can also object to how we use it, or ask us to restrict it. In practice the only information we hold is any email you have sent us. To use any of these rights, email support@invertedheadsoftware.co.uk. We'll reply within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Changes to this policy

If we change how SWCP Track handles information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app.
